Tip: Embed Your Instagram Feed Into Your Post, Page or Widget

In the last tip I showed you how to embed a single Instagram picture into a WordPress post. But what is much more useful is to be able to embed the most recent items from your feed. That way you can update your Instagram and the new images will automatically show up on your site.

Now you know how I hate to add extra plugins. This is a good example of that. There are lots of plugins that will do exactly this. But then you are stuck with another plugin to keep updated and worry about. With the single-Instagram-post embed, it was just a piece of HTML code you added to your post. It would be great if Instagram did the same thing for your feed. But they don’t.

I discovered a third-party service that does it through the site of a local baker, Church Of Cupcakes. The service is Lightwidget. It is free for http, but you have to upgrade for https service. Still, probably worth it for all of the features they have and also to keep your plugin count down.

Once you create your widget at the site, you get a small piece of HTML code that you can place in as Custom HTML in a post, page or widget. I love the idea of placing a grid of Instagram photos on your home page. Then you can “update” your home page by simply adding more Instagram pictures to your regular feed.
